Hollie really liked the weather!

Yesterday was awesome! We live in Southern California, so rain and lightning is extremely rare. Everyone in the office was watching the lightning saying, "Whoa! Double lightning all the way across the sky!" We all laughed, but a few hours later... there was an actual double rainbow outside! The outer rainbow faded pretty fast, but you could still see it.

If you look closely, you can see the outer rainbow just above the first tiny light post on the left.

We only have one car right now, so Hollie came to pick me up. She was standing outside the car looking at the sky. We took a few pictures and jumped in the car to go home. Once we left the church parking lot, she started to sound like she was going to cry. I busted out my iPhone and started recording. I didn't expect her to go to the extent that she did! I have 16 minutes of nothing but Hollie crying tears of joy while talking about the weather!

I pretty much stayed quite the whole ride home and let her do all the talking. My favorite part is when she talks about understanding the Double Rainbow Guy (Hungrybear9562). In the unedited version, she says it like 7 times :D

Of course some people are going to think this is staged and that's fine. Hollie has a history of crying like this after movies, so it's not too far off to say that she would act this way on a day like that. I'm not much of a nature guy, but it was a really crazy sky. We're also not trying to top or even come close to the official Double Rainbow video. We have our own thing going on YouTube and we're happy where we are. This was just too good to keep to myself :D

A few weeks ago, we were interviewed by the German network, RTL. It was really fun and they even took us to lunch afterwards! By far the best interview we've had. They finally posted the story online and I was surprised to discover that I know absolutely nothing about the German language. Nonetheless, the voice of the narrator and the music in the background made us smile.
Thanks to two amazing YouTubers, we were able to get it translated for subtitles within an hour. That's crazy! I still have some work to do with adding the subtitles, but I'll get to it!!! So here it is! If you're like us and have no idea what they're saying, just make something up :)

So what's new with you?

I'll be the first to admit that though it would be my dream to blog consistently, it is most certainly not my thing. When I'm inspired, I have no time to write. When I have time, I'm completely uninspired and have nothing to say. The good news is that I'm feeling up to the challenge of writing something that I hope is worth reading! So here's a CryingWife update!

We were recently contacted by a reporter named Hans. He's with the German network RTL and wants to do a story on us! We're really excited because we're hoping they'll replace our voices with German translators :D Our last "at home" interview was with ET. That didn't go over so well because the reporter was kind of... let's just say that they twisted everything we said even though we specifically asked them not to. We're not too worried about Hans and his crew because they sound really nice and our fans from other countries seem to understand our marriage dynamic more than the folks here at home. We'll see!

On top of that, I recently got word that the people over at "The Smoking Gun Presents" on TruTV want to use a few of our clips on their show. That sounds like a lot of fun and I can't wait to see what celebrities roast us! When it comes to a comedy show, we have no problem being the butts of the jokes :D

So where are the new videos? I can't promise anything, but we will try to make more in the near future. If these were fake, we'd be popping them out like Octomom on a Wednesday. However, they're not fake and not every reaction is as funny as the videos that we've been posting. We actually don't watch very many movies together because I'm more into thrillers and complex movies like Momento. She's more into Disney and family comedies. So finding a chunk of time to actually watch a movie that we can agree on and have it be the kind that she'll cry after and that she actually does cry... it's complicated :) Just know that we haven't given up on the crying wife videos. We just can't commit as much time to it as we'd like to.

So that's our update! Hopefully the Germany piece and our appearance on TruTV will encourage us to make a video very soon!

One of my favorites

A few months ago, Hollie and I were watching the Office when Pam and Jim got married. She cried through the whole wedding scene! Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera on me :( I knew that this needed to go on the site, so about a week ago I offered to rewatch that episode. It's a two parter, so she made us watch both. Needless to say, her reaction was gold! She was so happy for Pam and Jim as if they were real (she knows they're not). Here's a little factoid: The footage that you see is actually from us watching the wedding scene twice! Not just once, but twice!

The blog is a mess!

We were hosting our blog on SquareSpace, but I decided to move back to blogger because it's free and our blog doesn't need to be amazing. I moved it over, but I'm not going to have time to work on the design for awhile. So for now, enjoy this very basic blog layout! Woo Hoo!

On another note, a new video is coming very soon. This on is my all time favorite. Words can't describe Hollie's reaction to Pam and Jim's wedding on The Office. Hysterical. Look for it later this week!

Anniversary!

Hey Everybody!

I finally convinced Hollie to get a twitter account!  It's also our anniversary today!  I thought it would be awesome if I could get a many people as I could to follow her and leave a "Happy Anniversary!" message on her twitter.  She isn't addicted to twitter yet, so she probably wont check it until later tonight.  So, if you want to make her day, shoot her a tweet!  Her twitter is @HollieAdora!

Thanks everybody!  She told me that she was probably only going to have 2-3 followers.  I can't wait to surprise her!

P.S.  Special thanks to everyone who already tweeted her!  You guys are awesome!

The Dog Ate My Subtitles :-|

One of the key elements of the crying wife videos is Hollie's unintelligible ramblings.  I'll ask her a simple question like, "Are you happy for the dad?" and she'll go off an a speech that Sharon Osborne would have trouble interpreting!  If you listen carefully, you might be able to register a few bits and pieces, but anything more than a fragment of a sentence would be rare.

With such hard-to-understand commentary, it would be natural to have subtitles.  That would all fine and dandy, but in most of the videos, I have no idea what she's saying either!  In fact, I called in the expert, Hollie herself, and she had no idea what she was saying!  I hate to say it, but whatever's going on in her crazy mind is going to remain a mystery :)

Great Question from a YouTuber!

I just posted our latest video, "Wife Crying After K-PAX" and the reaction has been pretty awesome!  A YouTuber left a comment with a really good question: "hey i have a question, why do u tell us to request a movie if u dont even pick them?"

My response a bit too long for a comment response, so I decided to write a quick blog post with an answer.

Logistically, we can't pick every movie that's requested.  For one, we don't watch movies all that often (maybe once a month).  We both work and have lives outside of the website.  It's hard to find the right time and mood to get the best reaction out of Hollie.  So, when we do pick a movie, I have to make sure that it's going to be worth it (Where the Wild Things Are was a fail.  No tears at all!).

Secondly, we get about 500 movie requests a day. 90% are the same 5 movies (Titanic, Grave of Fireflies, the Notebook, Schindler's List, and Dear Zachary).  Great movie, but here's why we're probably never going to watch them for the site:

1.  They're too easy.  Everybody cries after those movies.  Hollie's reaction will be warranted and therefore not as funny.  It's almost as if you were to say, "This man will eat almost anything!" Then a bunch of people suggest pizza and tacos.  There's nothing amazing about that.

2.  This is my opinion, but it's not funny to watch someone who is sad.  Think about it; with the exception of Marley & Me, Hollie is crying tears of joy for the characters.  She's not sad, she's happy.  That happiness is what is making everyone smile and that's what I want to stick with.

3.  I have to watch these movies too.  With the exception of Schindler's List, I have no interest in watching (or rewatching) any of the top 5 suggested movies.  The Notebook and Titanic?  Nope! :)

So, does that mean that I'm ignoring the suggestions that people are submitting through our site?  Not at all!  In fact, I find the time to read each and every email that we get.  Trust me, I see the same movies suggestions over and over.  When I see a good one, I mark it down and pass it by Hollie.  It took some intense negotiations to get her to watch Dawn of the Dead!

Keep sending your suggestions and try to stick with movies that aren't tear jerkers :)

Thanks to everyone for all the awesome support!!!  It's cliche, but we wouldn't be doing any of this without the fans!  You guys rock!

No New Vids

A lot of people have been asking why we haven't made a new video in over a month.  Good question!  Simple answer: We're pretty busy.  We recently moved to South Carolina and we're currently house shopping.  Fun!  We tried to watch "Where the Wild Things Are", but we both thought it was dumb (no offense to the fans of the movie.  We just didn't feel like it lived up to the hype).  We also watched, "Serenity" (after watching the entire FireFly series), but I got sick and started puking towards the end of the movie and ruined it.  I got some footage, but not enough for a full video.

So, what's the future of CryingWife.com?  I'm going to get her reaction to Bicentennial Man (another "dumb movie about robots"), Teen Wolf, Rudy, Click, and Independence Day.  I'm also going to make mini-vids with Hollie crying after watching things like Pam & Jim's wedding on The Office, the new Gerber commercial, and a few other YouTube videos.  Oh and T-Shirts :)  We know some people who run a t-shirt press out of their house.  So those will be coming soon!

In other news, we're big in Japan right now!  The best part is that a big Japanese entertainment website wrote an article on us and the translation into english is hysterical :)  http://tinyurl.com/yc2qve5

"Crying Wife Syndrome"

The folks over at lemondrop.com interviewed me (Parker) with a few questions via email.  They wrote their article and gave it the great title of, "Crying Wife Syndrome".  I got a kick out of that.  The interview is mainly me going a little more in depth with a few commonly asked questions from cryingwife.com.  They topped it off with a cool section where they asked Lemondrop staff and contributors, "What movies movies make you cry?".

Fun article!  Here's the link:

CryingWife on Local News

We've been on the news everywhere except locally.  I got an email from a nice reporter named Elizabeth Owens.  She said that she heard about CryingWife.com on the radio and wanted to do a quick story on us.  Out of all the interviews we've done, this was our favorite.  The local CBS affiliate showed up with an awesome camera guy named, Doug (btw, all camera guys so far have been crazy cool!).  They were in and out within the hour!  The piece aired later that day!  The best part was that Elizabeth and Doug totally understood the concept of the site (unlike Inside Edition *cough*).  The story was great and portrayed us perfectly!  Here it is:

Thanks Elizabeth and Doug!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Being Valentine's Day, we should be watching a sappy romance comedy, but I really didn't want Hollie to cry afterwards.  That just wouldn't be right!  So I convinced her to watch Dawn of the Dead (most popular scary movie suggested on the website).  She was apprehensive at first, but I agreed to watch any three Disney movies of her choice in exchanged.  Yikes! She's a tough negotiator!

Whenever we watch a scary or suspenseful movies, she has to know a complete rundown of the plot before I hit play.  She wants to know who is going to live, who is going to die, how they're going to die, and if there are any plot twists.  I have no problem doing that because her reaction is always the same.  Dawn of the Dead was interesting because it didn't matter when I told her that a scary part was coming up.  I would say, "He's going to open the closet and a zombie is going to jump out to attack him."  She still freaks out!  Luckily, we kept n00b and ROFL in the other room.  They wouldn't have survived! (reference to the 2012 reaction video).

Anyway, I know this isn't a crying video, but it's still really cute and funny!  Happy Valentine's Day!

The Toronto Star

For whatever reason, we're pretty big deals in Canada.  Most of the radio stations that want us on their show are from Ontario.  A lot of the fan mail we receive (yes, we get fan mail) has .ca at the end of the email address.  We actually get a lot of fan mail from all around the world, but Canada seems to take the cake when it comes to being international fans :)

In fact, one reporter went to extreme lengths to get ahold of us for a story in The Toronto Star.  I was contacted via the website, my youtube account, my facebook, my twitter, my sister's facebook, and even my mom's facebook!  Wow!  They really wanted to do this story!  She even somehow tracked down my mom's number and gave her a call!  Now that's good journalistic investigation!

I gave her a call and did a 15 minute interview for her article.  She asked a lot of great questions and did a fantastic job in molding it into a story.  She got a lot of great quotes from Hollie.  It's cute because she uses words like, "Gosh" and "Ever ever ever".

Here's the article:

Fox News and Friends Appearance!

The Fox News and Friends Morning Show contacted us and asked if we'd like to be on the show via satellite.  Again, we're not looking for all the press and attention, but it's fun and we'll probably never have an opportunity like this again.  We're just having fun :)

They sent a limo service to pick us up and drive us to Fox Studios in Atlanta Georgia (about 2 hours away).  Our driver was this awesome old guy named Mac.  He was an awesome story teller and talked our ears off!  He's also hard of hearing, so that made the ride more interesting :)

We got to the studio and two really nice ladies told us how everything was going to work.  One of them even did our makeup!  Haha!  That was entertaining!  Hollie loved it and I felt violated :)

We sat down in front of a background and had our mics hooked up.  We had a big camera in front of our faces with a little monitor over to our left.  We had 2 minutes until we went on air when... Hollie's mic stopped working.  She's notorious for breaking electronics just by being around them.  I swear she's magnetic.  She and I started to worry, but the producer was really calm as she flipped a bunch of switches and unplugged a ton of cables. Literally 15 seconds before we went live, her mic started working again!

The funny thing is that there's a 5 second delay between the conversations, but a 15 second delay between us and the video feed to our left (which we could see in a mirror behind the camera).  It threw me off!  Our smiles were so strange because we didn't know when we were on camera and when we were off!

Hollie did amazing and was super cute!  My voice was cracking like crazy!  Puberty takes forever!  All in all, it was fun to get picked up by a limo and be on TV.  Never did we expect that!  Oh and on the way home, I got car sick and threw up in the limo!  Hollie sent out a tweet and told everybody!  And you call me mean!  haha!

Here's the interview mixed with our own behind the scenes footage!

Kevin Smith is a Fan!

I got a bunch of emails from people telling me that Kevin Smith talked about CryingWife.com on his podcast, SModcast!  He was actually one of the first celebrity tweets that got us a lot of attention a few weeks back.  I've always been a huge fan of Kevin Smith, so this made my day!  If you don't know who Kevin Smith is... you and I are no longer on speaking terms.

In the excerpt that I grabbed, he's talking about his own wife at the beginning.  Apparently she's a funny movie wather too.

Here's the excerpt from Episode 105 (caution: Strong Kevin Smith language!):

This text will be replaced

I think the best part is that he's a filmmaker and understands why she's crying.  I'm not saying that he doesn't think it's weird, but you can tell that he apperciates the humor behind all of it! He does get some of the information wrong about us.  Hollie is 22 and she cried after watching the entire Star Wars Saga.  Not that big of a deal!  He used the word, "Brilliant" to describe the videos!  Ha!

His podcast is super funny and entertaining!  Click here to subscribe to his podcast on iTunes.

Thanks Kevin Smith!

TV Stars!

Hollie and I are getting up early tomorrow to appear on the Fox News & Friends morning show!  I got an email from the producer who wanted a next day interview!  We're going to be on the show via satellite.  I'm thinking about acting like the delay is way longer than it should be :) Haha!

I'm going to have my FlipVideo with me the whole time.  Hopefully we can capture some great moments.  Hollie is really excited.  Her favorite part is that they're going to do her makeup for her in the morning!  Haha!  They're picking us up around 7 am to take us to the studio.  What if it's a limo?!  That would be so cool!

We're going to be on around 9:50 am EST; so make sure you look for us!  It's on the Fox News Channel.

I'll be tweeting the whole time so be sure to follow our twitter!

Is this all real?

The big question that a lot of people are asking is, "Is this real?  Does this girl really cry like that after movies?"  I can say with no reservation that these videos are 100% real.  Hollie and I have been together for 3 years and her tears after movies are nothing new.  In fact, my in-laws (her parents) told me that she had been crying like that since she was a little girl watching the Little Mermaid (sorry, no video of that!).  I'm used to it and think it's cute and funny.

"Then why does she let you film her?" is another commonly asked question.  If she's not faking it, why would she let you put a camera in her face?  Again, the crying was nothing new to me.  I'm a huge geek and was flabbergasted when I found out that she had never seen a Star Wars movie!  I told her that we would have to spend the next week watching the entire dual trilogy!  I never expected tears.  In fact, I was surprised that she wanted to keep watching after Episode 1!

When we finally finished watching Episode 6, Hollie broke down.  This was something new because we never watch those kinds of movies together.  I couldn't believe that she was actually crying over Star Wars!  Now remember, I'm a big geek.  We had recently purchased a video camera and I was that annoying husband who filmed everything!  30 years from now, I want to look back on my life and have the ability to pause, fast forward, and rewind :)

I knew that our kids would watch this in the future and laugh, so I decided to egg her on a bit.  It wasn't until the end when she said that I was embarrassing her that I made the joke about putting on YouTube.  Luckily, after I showed her the footage, she was laughing harder than I was!  I then put it on YouTube, not thinking it would ever really pick up.  In fact, it wasn't until a few months later that it started to get some unexpected attention!

So, is it real?  Yep!  She's just a really cute girl with a really funny quark :)  I personally think it's funnier when she cries after a movie that doesn't have a sad ending.  Marley & Me and Artificial Intelligence were made purely because those were the most suggested movies on the YouTube comments.

Now there's a blog!

The videos of Hollie crying after movies were never expected to get so popular!  We think it's hysterical that there's a fanbase forming!  Haha!  We're just a normal couple having fun with this wave of temporary internet fame :)  I created this blog so you could have fun on the ride with us!  I'll post our experiences from the start on this blog.

Again, we're just having fun with all of this!  Thanks for all the support and kind words!  Also, don't forget to follow us on Twitter!  New videos are coming soon!  I just finished negotiations to get Hollie to watch the Indiana Jones Triology!  If she watches all 3, I have to watch 5 Disney movies (of her choice).
